The Lake Wissota Garden Club of Chippewa Falls, WI serving Chippewa County area gardeners always welcomes new members. Our monthly meetings, with a focus on garden-related learning, are held every second Thursday at the Lafayette Town Hall, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin
As we start the month of March, our second annual Tree Sale begins! Now is the time to take a look through the order form, and place your order for sapling trees and shrubs; bird, bat, and bee houses; and native wildflower seeds. All are available at inexpensive prices through this sale. This Tree Sale is extremely important to the Lake Wissota Garden Club, as it has become our primary fund-raising project. What’s available? Well, if you or someone you know wants to plant a forest; sapling pines, spruce, and fir trees are available at reasonable prices. Want to cook up your own maple syrup? Start a sugar bush by ordering some sugar maple trees. Looking for some winter interest for your yard? Plant some fast growing red osier dogwood with beautiful red bark. Numerous native pollinators are available, many featuring clusters of spring flowers and berries in the fall. Welcome wrens, bluebirds, and wood ducks to your yard by purchasing a bird house. Bat houses are for sale; and new for this year’s sale — bee houses! How about starting your own prairie with extremely inexpensive native wildflower seed? Seeds are packaged in various amounts, so if a large prairie isn’t a possibility, sow some seeds in a garden spot to attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. The wildflower seeds are harvested within 50 miles and most are deer resistant. In total, 23 tree and shrub varieties are available through this sale, along with 7 native wildflower seeds, 1 wildflower mix, and 6 types of bird, bat, and bee houses. Many of these items are excellent as windbreaks, screening, and shade. They also provide food and habitat for wildlife, as well as ornamental beauty. Order forms must be mailed to the address listed on the form and must be mailed by March 31. Again, the success of this sale is important to the financial health of our organization. Please promote this sale to your family, friends, co-workers, and acquaintances; and encourage their participation in beautification, environmental, and conservation efforts in their own backyards!
